Teleconfereing (Receycled story c/f)

Monday, September 1, 2008
What is Teleconferencing?
Now days, we hear a lot about Teleconferencing. Teleconferencing is a system of holding conferences by television. It enables people to hold simultaneous face-to –face-public conferences with people in several cities. People who need to get together for discussions need no longer to travel to the same place to hold a conference. They can now communicate with each other by a form of television sent over telephone lines or via satellites. The system is not like television in the home. The people can see each other on a large screen in their own rooms and talk easily to anyone taking part. Computers handle the transmission of the sound and pictures, using a very clever system. A computer at each end holds the picture in its memory. But after initially transmitting the whole picture, the sending computer only transmits the part that moves. The receiving computers mix the still and moving parts so that a complete picture is always shown on the screen.

Hindustani classical music
Rasa and rang do play a significant role in Hindustani classical music. But, its spiritual life force or prana has much deeper roots.

Anhad naad, the unstruck sound or naad has been mentioned by saints like Kabir and Mira, as the music heard within the depths of one's being. Anhad naad is a divine melody, a celestial music which is transcendent, beyond the senses and intellect.

It can neither be sung nor heard. It can be contacted by the soul alone. Anhad naad and soul are in essence the same as God. There is therefore a natural spiritual magnetic attraction between them. So when a listener's soul is turned towards the anhad naad within it is drawn like a needle to a magnet.

In the realm of Nirakar, the Unmanifest Supreme God, like every thing else in Creation, music too is in its potentiality only. But this potentiality is the thing that eventually takes form ‘ aakaar’ as music in our physical world when sung or played.

The pleasure or satisfaction experienced by the listener as rasa and rang is due to the union of the manifest music with the unmanifest anhad naad deep within the listener.

The relationship between the listener's soul and anhad naad within her being is like that between the struck baaj ke taar strings of a sitar and its unstruck sympathetic strings or tarben which resonate only by the vibrations caused by the struck strings.

The musicality of the sound produced by the struck strings is hollow and incomplete without the complementary sound lent by the sympathetic unstruck strings. That is why sitar maestros give so much time and attention to the fine-tuning of the tarben.

The same applies to the listener of Hindustani classical music. The more finely attuned are her soul and the inner celestial melody, the deeper and more fulfilling will be the music heard by her. This is why everybody does not appreciate or enjoy music to the same extent or intensity. The fine-tuning of body and soul differs from person to person.

Every lover of classical Hindustani music may not be aware of the anhad naad within, like an accomplished saint, but anhad is very much there as an integral part of the Supreme Akhand and Anant or Oneness of the unmanifest or Nirakar and the manifest or Sakar.

Omkaar is the point of union between the unmanifest and the manifest. Omkaar emanates from the hridayakash or heart space of Brahmn. And from His divine game emanates the seven swaras i.e. nishad, rishabh, gandhar, sadaj, madhyam, dhaiwat and pancham. Brahmn is ‘ Shabdabrahmaswaroop ’. He is manifest when audible (Omkaar or Om+aakaar) and unmanifest when dormant and formless as "OM" in Brahmn.

Only a true and perfect maestro can join the disciples' soul with the anhad naad within. We cannot achieve this by reading books or listening to the recordings of past maestros. Anhad naad is a transcendent entity and therefore cannot be conveyed or given to others indirectly. Reciprocity is a must. Only a living person can open the current of the divine melody within us. If his own soul has awakened to this anhad naad, he can awaken other souls too.

Our own zeal and practice do matter, but these too are part of the guru's grace only. The guru, performing artist's soul, the listener's soul, God and anhad naad, are one and the same. Little wonder then that Pandit Amarnath finds bhakti bhav the essential underlying rasa in Hindustani classical music. But bhakti bhav is the outcome of the spiritual roots of Hindustani music. It is not the other way round.

Concious Decision (Recycled Story C/F)

Monday, August 25, 2008
Conscious decisions
We take for granted that we have the free will to make conscious decisions to choose between different possible courses of action.

However, recently conducted experiments in the Max Planck Institute in Germany on the functioning of the human brain, have put that presumption into doubt. The researchers have concluded that free will could, in fact, be "little more than an illusion".

The experiments indicated that our subconscious mind decides on and dictates our actions, long before our conscious mind actually realises it. If human beings are not able to act independently, then that makes them, in the words of one of the researchers, "...little more than automatons, mere machines, pieces of biological clock-work that have no more free will than a Swiss watch".

Do the experiments suggest that an unseen power thinks for us, decides and tells us how we must act? Are not actions in our control?

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna, "The Supreme dwells in the heart of all beings revolving them all by His mysterious power, Maya." The Supreme, however, does not control living entities as a puppeteer controls puppets. The control is through a subtle mechanism that works under material nature (prakriti). The Gita says, "Everywhere, in all the material universes, the dispositions of nature ^ gunas of prakriti ^ perform all works. But deluded by egoism, man thinks, 'i am the doer'."

Man is born with samskaras, or tendencies, that he acquires commensurate with his activities ^ karma ^ in previous lives. These samskaras are made up of the three gunas: sattva, rajas and tamas. The proportion of each guna in an individual is what makes his character. All his thoughts and actions are then dictated by his samskaras because nature compels him to act according to his character. The Gita says, "Not even for a moment can man remain without performing any action. Everyone is forced to act according to the qualities he has acquired from the modes of material nature or gunas."

The Padma Purana says that the fate of five things in one's life is already decided at the time of one's conception in the womb ^ the aggregate wealth one will acquire, one's occupation, education, lifespan, and when, where and how one will die. Happenings associated with these five are preordained and will come to pass, no matter what, and can be termed one's destiny. One's character, moulded by one's samskaras, will then make one act in such a manner that events play out as destined.

Are we mere cogs on a machine operated by the Supreme, or do we have free will at all to act independently? Krishna tells Arjuna, "Thus I have imparted to you wisdom that is more secret (profound) than all that is secret. Reflecting over the whole teaching, do as you think fit." Here He clearly states that man does have free will to think and act independently. Moreover, the Law of Karma, which is based on the concept of cause and effect makes us the architects of our own destiny. To be able to shape our own destiny, free will becomes a prerequisite. Without free will, the Law of Karma becomes inoperative.

We could use the limited free will that we have, to pursue purely material pleasures that might degrade our future samskaras, or we could perform noble deeds which would generate sattvic samskaras and help us evolve spiritually and ultimately take us to the goal of human life, that is, moksha.

Creative mysteory (Recycled story C/F)

Creative mystery
Ego manifests itself in different forms. We usually refer to ego as pride. We can have pride of knowledge, power and wealth. We attribute all that we are and all that we have done to our own individual efforts. We think we are superior to others in many ways. Most religions say that God is the Creator. It is from Him that the entire universe came into being. We are but small specks in the entire scheme of Creation. If we examine our thoughts, how many times do we thank Him for our life? Few people go through their day-to-day lives remembering Him and His gifts. True, we say mechanical prayers either at places of worship. We remember him when we want Him to save us from a calamity or from serious illness. But most of the time we hardly give Him a thought. Some even deny His existence. Scientists removed God from their view of the universe because He could not be verified by scientific instrumentation. There are some enlightened scientists who have begun to question how such a perfectly designed universe and such a complex, well-planned organism as a human being could come about through chance. Those who delve into the intricacies of nature and are in awe of it have the humility to recognise there is some higher power responsible for this universe. Pride of knowledge comes because of traps laid by the mind. When our soul enters the body, it works in this world through the mind. The brain is a complex organ that receives sense impressions from the world. Our culture makes us interpret these impressions in a certain way. Besides receiving and interpreting impressions, the brain is a vehicle by which we can communicate with the world through language, to make our thoughts known to others. There are many involuntary actions controlled by the brain breathing, heartbeat and the release of hormones that regulate body functions. Many think that the brain is the seat of thought. But there is a difference between the mind and the brain. The brain is like a computer which performs many functions. But it is the mind that controls the brain. The mind is a product of the causal plane of creation, a mixture of spirit and matter. With the mind in control, many of our decisions and actions are based on meeting the mind's desire and wishes. Because the object of the mind is to keep us enslaved to the world, it controls us. The soul, having forgotten itself, goes along with the mind. We go to school and gain knowledge of this physical universe. We are bombarded by sense impressions at every moment. Our brain has the capacity to take in billions of bits of information, store and retrieve them, much like a computer. Words can be combined in billions of ways to create new stories, books, ideas, new inventions. The notes of the musical scale can be combined in billions of ways to create a wide variety of music. The mind can keep us occupied and involved in this world for aeons and aeons. The mind has forgotten that the colours of the palette it uses to paint have been created by God Himself. That the notes of the scale that it uses to compose songs are of God's own making. The brain it uses to communicate with the world is also a creation of God.

Mission of life-(Recycled story c/f)

conciousness

Consciousness is the One without the second. It is the source of everything. The ‘who, what, where, when’ are all conceptual images in consciousness. They are all as real as any mirage or dream.

The totality of manifestation, and everything therein, is consciousness , the Unicity. All there is, is consciousness, unaware of itself in its noumenal subjectivity, but perceived by itself as phenomenal manifestation in its objective expression.

If this is understood in depth, there is nothing more to be understood because such understanding must comport the realisation that there is no individual entity as insubstantial shadow, whereas what we really and truly are, is consciousness itself, the formless Brahmn.

All that exists is universal consciousness. The universe as such is not the universal consciousness, but consciousness is the universe just as the bracelet is made of gold but the gold is not made of the bracelet. Whether the manifested universe exists or not, consciousness is there as the subjective Absolute...

The appearance of the universe exists in infinite consciousness, just as the notion of distance or emptiness exists in space... Consciousness creates the illusion of the world appearance and the ego-sense , and perceives the illusion of diversity in what is truly pure Unicity...

How can the universe exist in infinite consciousness that is supposed to be transcendental?

Truly there is nothing other than consciousness, and therefore consciousness cannot but be immanent in everything that appears to exist. And yet no phenomenal manifestation can have any kind of relationship with consciousness because a relationship can exist only between two different entities. It is in this sense that consciousness is transcendental to the manifested universe.

What appears within consciousness as its own reflection — the manifestation of the universe — is not separate or different from consciousness. While the shadow, by itself, has no existence and is therefore unreal, the shadow is not different from the substance when seen together.

When there is no mind in operation, when there is no conceptualising, it is clearly known, felt and experienced, that phenomenality is only the objective expression of the subjective noumenon... God is that formless subjectivity , pure potential, the infinite, universal consciousness, Brahmn, which alone exists even after the cosmic dissolution.

It is only within this pure, infinite consciousness , the potential plenum, that phenomenal manifestation arose as a mere reflection of that potentiality, as a mere objective expression of that pure subjectivity.

The phenomenal objectivisation of this pure subjectivity appears and functions in our outer world of consciousness in the waking state, precisely like sentient and insentient objects seem to exist and function in the inner world of consciousness in the dream state. Nothing really happens.

The final truth is that there is neither creation nor destruction, neither birth nor death, neither destiny nor free will, neither any path nor any achievement... So there is no reason to be aware of anything. So consciousness-at-rest is not aware of itself.

It becomes aware of itself only when this sudden feeling, ‘I Am’ , arises. I Am is the impersonal sense of being aware. And that is when consciousness-at-rest becomes consciousness-in-movement , when potential energy becomes actual energy. They are not two. Nothing separate comes out of the potential energy.

It is amazing that you accomplish even when others get the credit for it.

We all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon.

People always call it luck when you have acted more sensibly than they have.

Where gold speaks every tongue is silence.

It is not enough to aim , you must hit.

Every man has right to be wrong in his opinion. But no man has a right to be wrong in his facts.

You mission of life

You mission of life is –to bear on your shoulders the burden of others, to pursue with zeal, a task that is not inspiring, to succeed sticking to an aim though others claim the credit. This requires a clean mind and heart. But if you do them by discipline, your name will distinctly shine as a gem in heavenly shrine.

True enemies (Recycleds story C/F)

Accept People As They Are
A story was told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from San Francisco.
“Mom and Dad, I am coming home, but I have a favour to ask, I have a friend I would like to bring home with me.”
“Sure,” they replied ,”We would love to meet him”.
“There is something you should know”, the son continued, “he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mine and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come and live with us”.
“ I am sorry to hear that, son Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live”.
“No, mom and Dad, I want him to live with us”.
“Son”, said the father ,”you don’t know hat you are asking.
Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we cannot let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He will find a way to live on his own.”
At that point , the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, however, they received a call form the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgues to identify the body of their won son. They recognized him but to their horror they also discovered something they did not know, their son had only one arm and one leg.
The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy to love those who are good looking or fun to have around, but we don’t like people who inconvenience us or make us feel uncomfortable. We would rather stay away form people who are not as healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are. Thankfully, there is someone who would not treat us that way. Someone who loves us with an unconditional love that welcomes us into the family regardless of how messed up we are.
Tonight, before you tuck yourself in for the night, say a little prayer that God will give you the strength you need to accept people as they are, and to help us all the more understanding of those who are different from us!
Love Them Any Way
People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered.
Love them any way!
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives
Do good anyways!
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies
Success anyway!
The good you do to-day will be forgotten tomorrow
Do good anyway!
Honesty and frankness make you face harmfulness.
Be honest and frank anyway!
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway!
Heaven on Earth
Every morning is a fresh beginning. Today is a new day. I have lived all my life up to this moment to come to this day. I shall make each moment of this day a heaven on earth.
My political ideal is democracy, every one should be respected as individual, but no one idolized.

Flaming (Internet)

Flaming is the hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or even through e-mail. An Internet user typically generates a flame response to other posts or users posting on a site, and is usually not constructive, does not clarify a discussion, and does not persuade others. Sometimes, flamers attempt to assert their authority, or establish a position of superiority over other users. Other times, a flamer is simply an individual who believes he or she carries the only valid opinion. This leads him or her to personally attack those who disagree. Occasionally, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they are trolls. Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject. Some equate flaming with simply letting off steam, though the receiving party may be less than pleased. Similarly, a normal, non-flame message may have elements of a flame -- it may be hostile, for example -- but it is not a flame if its author seriously intends to advance the discussion. The word flaming is also sometimes used for long, intensive and heated discussions, even though insults do not occur. Although the trading of insults is as old as human speech, flaming on the Internet, like many other online 'actions,' started in the Usenet hierarchies (although it was known to occur in the WWIVnet and FidoNet computer networks as well). The term "flaming" is believed to be a reference to the Marvel Comic superhero the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four. After the accident which gave Johnny Storm the ability to become a human torch, he was initially unable to control when he would burst into flames. He learned to control his powers by saying "Flame on" which would initiate the transformation into a human torch and he would return to his normal state by saying "Flame off." [1] Since early users of the asynchronous text communication wanted to distinguish their angry/insulting/sarcastic portions of their response from their serious statements, they would prefix their angry/insulting/sarcastic text with "Flame on" and indicate the end of such statements with "Flame off".
Flame reviews
Flame reviews are often used to insult the creator of a product (eg. a game, a story, or a video), but are particularly common on, but not restricted to, sites with poor review monitoring techniques (such as Newgrounds.com). Since they are difficult to respond to, they rarely burst into prolonged online arguments, although they are both annoying and hurtful; two specific qualities required for a flame. Flame reviews are often confused with non-constructive criticism. While non-constructive criticism is often painfully blunt, rude and sometimes insulting, it never attacks creators themselves, only their products. In other words, the review is not made with malicious intent. The review may or may not be anonymous, because such reviewers rarely believe that they have actually said anything hurtful and so are not afraid of retribution. Flame reviews, on the other hand, involve deeply personal attacks, often regarding the creator's sexuality, intelligence, choice of fandom, family or friends, with random cursing thrown in. They are, whenever possible, written anonymously and are intentionally insulting. If there is any reference to the product, it will be used to insult the creator (eg: "How stupid are you to have written this awful trash?"). A popular stereotype of a flame review is that it is badly spelt, typed in All Caps and contains either excessive punctuation or no punctuation at all, but this is not compulsory. Flame reviews and non-constructive criticism are usually only confused when the creator has not actually ever received a genuine flame. They are in fact very different and can be told apart on sight. Flame reviewers are closely associated with Internet trolls.
Holy Wars
While a flame war is usually a particular spate of flaming, a holy war is a drawn-out disagreement that may last years or even span careers. For instance, younger Linux programmers who today have strong opinions on vi and emacs may not even have been born in 1976 when these editors were released. Use of the term "holy war" implies that the root of the disagreement is a clash of values, and intractable of resolution except by agreeing to disagree. (This sort of flamewar requires the acceptance of differing opinions in order to end, as the length of a "holy war" clearly indicates that neither side is willing to change their minds or back down.)
Pie fights
A pie fight is a type of discourse specific to bulletin boards, blogs and other types of Internet forums. Pie fights are characterized by heated, emotional exchanges, and although they are typically of short duration, they can have a devastating effect on an online community. Pie fights can be started by Internet trolls who use baiting techniques to enrage Internet forum users so much that they post inappropriate and/or offensive messages. Unfortunately, this often results in disruption of the forum more than anything else. The term "pie fight" is derived from a June 2005 event on Daily Kos, a liberal and progressive issues web site, in which site administrators accepted an advertisement that showed two scantily-clad women throwing pies and smearing each other with whipped cream and pie filling. This advertisement was for the TBS reality series The Real Gilligan's Island.[2] Despite the fact that the advertisement was only marginally related to the regular subject matter discussed on Daily Kos, it dominated the user diary entries and blog comments for several days. The animosity generated by the acceptance of this advertisement caused some established members of the Daily Kos community to cease participation in the forum that it provides.
Thought policing
Thought policing (taken from George Orwell's novel 1984) is when someone trolls the forums looking for posts that do not align with their political, religious, or moral values. When they find a post that they do not agree with, they post messages in that post to incite people to bring attention to that post to get it locked or deleted. This phenomenon is perennial in forums and motives can vary, but what they accomplish is to stifle freedom of speech and open and honest discussions on topics they feel could be a threat.
Flaming as an art form
During the early days of Internet use, flaming could be considered an inside joke, a group game or even a participatory artistic activity. This can still be the case on forums and message boards which have a small number of regular users who know each other well. In this situation, flames are exchanged without ill-feeling and especially clever and humorous insults may be archived for the future enjoyment of users. In the 1980s when Bulletin Board Systems were becoming common, small and tight-knit online communities would often treat flaming as a litmus test for potential new members. If they weathered the attack, or better yet, joined in and returned as good as they got, they were worth keeping. An excellent example of one such board would be the FYAD subforum of the Something Awful community, which engages in constant vicious flamewars for both comedic value and to intimidate new users from posting. Especially humorous threads are archived in the FYAD section of the Comedy Goldmine. While those who participate in the 'art of flaming' may find it humorous, those who do not often find it hurtful and have their confidence shot down. Due to this, many web sites have had anti-flame groups spring up to get flamers banned from the site on behalf of those who have been hurt by an insulting flame.
Sometimes, serious academic or technical disagreements online are described casually as "flame wars" even when the major participants are making useful and informative points and, largely, not flaming. This may have to do with the degree to which observers identify emotionally with the sides of the debate, or see esteemed leaders or role-models representing their own points of view powerfully. For example, the Usenet discussion between Andrew S. Tanenbaum and Linus Torvalds on microkernel versus monolithic kernel operating system design (Tanenbaum-Torvalds debate) has been described as a famous "flame war". Despite being designated a "flame war", the debate is quite informative: it has been studied by serious computer scientists and researchers, and remains recommended and even required reading in courses on OS design and implementation. Partly, terming such a discussion a "flame war" seems to be due to faulty or distorted memory of the discussion itself: it is easier to remember the (relatively few) insulting asides made -- such as Tanenbaum's comment that he would give Torvalds a poor grade for Linux's design -- than it is to remember the technical points, a phenomenon called illusory correlation. To continue the above example, Torvalds and Tanenbaum have both made it clear that they consider their famous discussion to have been mischaracterized. Technical "advocacy" discussions, concerning the merits or flaws of a technology -- or especially of rival technologies -- can often seem "flamy" simply from the emotional intensity of hobbyists or professionals involved. Some have called the debates about the relative merits of Intel Pentium versus PowerPC, or Pentium 4 versus Athlon XP, or Microsoft Windows versus Mac OS X, or Microsoft Windows versus Linux, or Apple Computer's decision to go with NeXT over BeOS as "flame wars", even though the discussions are often highly technical and non-inflammatory. Also, the debates on certain topics in theoretical physics, such as loop quantum gravity versus string theory between Lubos Motl and John Baez and Steve Carlip has been described by string theorist and Harvard professor of physics Lubos Motl as a "flame war" -- despite the fact that they were a source of fruitful articles on quasinormal modes of black hole physics. The term "flame war" may also be applied to a heated debate in anticipation of the debate becoming an actual flame war.
Causes of flaming
There is no general agreement on the causes of flaming, although a recent study has led to somewhat conclusive evidence. Some common hypotheses are:
Some forms of flaming can be attributed to deeper social or psychological weaknesses, probably from lack of exposure to a broader spectrum of disciplines that result in self-control issues.[3]
It is noted that Internet users are more likely to flame online than insult others in the real world, as the latter can lead to embarrassment and physical altercations, which online "anonymity" can avoid. Others urge against flaming, citing that people on the other side "have feelings too."
Samrat is a 26 yr old HR professional. On a regular day he reaches office around 10 am and logs in, going into various online communities and chat-rooms. He leaves office around 6:30pm and logs in as soon as he reaches home. He is online almost as long as he is awake. Samrat is only one of the numerous people who live more in the virtual world than in the real one around them.Samrat knows that.” Life is hectic and it’s very difficult for me to visit and call up my friends on a regular basis. It is far easier to keep in touch with them on line, since most them are on line too. But it is true that the virtual world is becoming very real for us. We are moving away from the world around us.” he says.……………………………………………………………………………………CourtesyTelegraph
I Derive Joy
There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 5 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the ten minutes joy that I derive from? I am not robbing you of your joy; why should you rob me of mine. He asked. The critics were silenced. –Baba- Chinna Katha
