Domestic routines

Domestic routines
Many people lead hectic lives, juggling the demands of work and home with leisure activities and other commitments. Managing a busy household is like running an office. Set aside regular periods for basic chores, then organize the rest of your time around other essential tasks., use the same devices for making domestic life easier as at work: make lists , file information, use logs to plan specific jobs, make notes of job details, apportion time efficiently , tidy items away, and set up systems and routines. An organized approach will mean that you spend less time, money and effort on ordinary jobs, leaving you more time and energy for the interesting aspects of life. Organising other essential tasks.
Most people move home from time to time. Make this onerous task easy with careful planning, sorting, and packing beforehand, then sound organization on the day. If you work, organize space, time equipment, and specific tasks in order to maximize your efforts. Finally, make sure you know how to administer basic first aid and that you have the materials at hand to do so.
Decorating like a Professional
A beautifully decorated home will provide you with a refuge from the hourly-burly of modern life and a haven for relaxation and recreation. Doing the decorating provides many people with a leisure activity. While others do it for economic reasons, or as a creative outlet. Whatever the reason or the project, the same guidelines apply . spend as much money as  you can afford on decorating equipment and materials , experiment so that you make the right decisions about décor; prepare surfaces well before you start consider environmentally friendly products; and finishes off carefully and cleanly for a professional look.
Cook with confidence
Fast living means fast food in the sense of timesaving tips and a wealth of helpful suggestions-both traditional and innovative-to make your cooking healthy , manageable and enjoyable whether it is a simple family supper or a special diner with friends. Equip your kitchen well, and choose a versatile variety of prepared and staple foofs for your store cupboard. In addition, buy the best, freshest ingredients and choose simple , healthful recipes for everyday meals as we well as when entertaining. You will thus enjoy cooking your food as well as eating it.
Gardening for Pleasure.
Whether you inherit a beautiful garden or create one for yourself, it will need regular attention and care. This will include the pruning and propagation of plants watering and weeding , keeping pests at bay, mowing and feeding lawns, and maintaining non–living items such as paths and garden furniture. Handy hints and traditional wisdom will take the sweat out of gardening, encourage you to garden creatively , build special features such as ponds or pergolas, and enjoy work or pleasure in your garden throughout the year. Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
Everyone wished to be a leader, forgetting that to be a leader hew has to be the humblest in the group to which he belongs,. It is wrong to think that a leader is born. He is a person who works hard and climbs one rung after another till he reaches the top of the ladder. He may have been born with some special qualities which marked him out for leadership, but the most important among these qualities must have been his readiness ot sacrifice his own interests for the sake of others. He surely had some good qualities so that in group activities his choice as leader was automatic and unanimous., but if he is a selfish man his is not likely to retain his position for long, he will be thrown out sooner or later.
There is an interesting story about Lenin: Soon after the Soviets captured power in Russia, the food situation, which had been bad earlier, became worse. People had nothing for eat except potatoes. Naturally there was much discontent throughout the country. This discontent was fueled further by the rumour that though there was hardship fore everybody, the leaders live a comfortable life. They had everything they wanted. A group of people decided to pay a surprise visit to Lenin when he was having his lunch. They were taken aback when they discovered Lenin’s only food was potatoes! Lenin asked them what they wanted. They said “We wanted to ask you a question. We have, however, fond the answer to the question and we dent now need to put it to you’ Abashed, they left the place. No wonder the Soviet people still love and admire Lenin though they are disillusioned about Stalin , disillusioned even about Communism which Lenin had introduced.
The leader must be an example of what he perches, People will love and respect him when they see he is an honest man true to what he stands for. If he betrays his professed ideals, people will hate him. Very soon, people will remove him from his position.
A true leader does not seek power, but power comes to him all the same. People love and respect him because of his character-and they follow in his footsteps willingly, gladly.
A true leader does not place himself before others, he places others before himself. He does not want power and position, he only wants an opportunity to serve others. If he has power and position, he used them only to serve others in bigger and better way. He does not think he is the master, he thinks he is the servant of all. He does not clam any privilege, he only begs that he may be allowed to serve. He does to want adoration, he wants criticism so that he can avoid errors. If he commits and error for which people suffer, he repents courtesy Vedanta in Practice

But, if He exists?
I drive joy There was a doctor in Benaras who spent 7 minutes in the morning and evening for mediation on God. Knowing this, his colleagues and friends laughed at him. One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Home Sweet Home

John Howard Payne- who wrote “Home Sweet Home” never had a home of his own.
Payne was born in New York City in 1791, His father was an unsuccessful schoolmaster who kept his family on the move. Payne was living alone in New York boarding house when, at the age of only 14, he startled the theatrical world by publishing a magazine on show business. Although he alone make up the entire staff, the magazine was an instant success.
While still in teens, Payne won fame as an actor and a playwright. Then, in 1813, he went to London to try his luck there  . in 1820 after a theatrical failure, he was sent to London’s infamous Fleet Street Prison for debt Friends helped him to escape and he fled to Paris.
Still homeless and broke, he wondered the streets of Paris thinking of suicide. Finally, he found a job writing the words for a new operetta called Clair. One of the songs he wrote for this was “Home Sweet Home” Although the song was a worldwide hit. Payne never made any money from it. He was always broke, always on the move
Finally through friends, he was made the United States Counsel in Tunisia-then a very bleak hardship post. He died there , still alone in 1852, his grave marked only by a pepper tree.
Years later, Payne’s body was brought back to the U.S and buried with honours in Washington’s Oak Hall cemetery.
The homeless man who had written the most popular song of his century had come home at last.

Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
In order to practice meditation , every aspirant requires, at least in the beginning, some concrete objects on which to mediate. Technically, Yoga has been defined as “a method of stopping the mind-stuff from acquiring modification’s According to Patanjal,, the most effective, way of doing this is to concentrate the “mind-stuff” by meditation on God. On the assumption (based on authentic experience) that the sound-symbol of God is the sacred word “Om” the aspirant is asked to repeat this word at time of mediation, as also when doing Prayaam
Raja-Yoga (the Royal Path of Union) is probably the most scientific and partial of all the four Yoga’s. The profound knowledge of the mind, including its subconscious depths and its superconscious heights, on which Patanjali has based his teaching, might make any modern psychologist green with envy.
This Yoga does not ask us to take anything for granted. It does not talk of “Grace” or of “The chosen Few”. It simply says that whoever sincerely follows the instructions will get at least some results-more or less, according to his capacity –and that these results will fortify his belief and encourage him to proceed further. It goes without saying that, as in the case of all other practices fast results can be achieved only by those who are most energetic.

Spirituality of The Arts

Spirituality of The Arts

In India children in most of the homes are given lessons in music and dance from a very early age. Most of the children would have swarjnana. Knowledge of the swara. It is only now that people in the West are accepting the spirituality of the arts. Previously they thought that music and dance were the best means of entertainment. We do not think like this. We consider music and dance to be a means of worshipping and pleasing God. In the West, music and dance are seen as the best means of entertainment and now this concept is invading India.
It is necessary to teach our children classical dance and music from childhood . if they are not given proper lessons in music and dance in their childhood , when they grow up they will take up that very music and dance which you disapprove of . but what is the use of approving or disapproving? There is no other alternative left . if you give them proper training and expose them to classical music and dance in childhood , then as they grow up no cultural current, no music of lesser type can influence them. Any culture will have its impact on you only if you have a void in your life, otherwise it is not possible.
Music and dance are fine arts Music has had its origin in the Sama Veda from time immemorial. Sama means richa, or hymns. The Sama Veda contains hymns . they richas of the Rig Veda, when sung to a tune , become the Sama Veda. In English it is called psalm
Dance has a primordial origin. Dance is Shiva himself. There are many books on dance in our classical literature, the most authentic being Bharatnatayam, the Natyashestra of Bharata in the Sanskrit language . Dance is a language not or words but or mudras, or gestures. The language of dance  and music is symbolic. It is a codified language in which communication takes place through music and gestures. Postures and mudras. It is a language of feeling and moods. . From Bhakti Yoga Sagar
Quote from the True Charm and power of Vedanta
Swami Vivekananda was certainly a Hindu monk of India’ but he was ‘Hindu’ in the broadest sense of the term. The word ‘Hindu’ was used by the Persians with reference to the people living across the river ‘Sindhu’ Hinduism is the religion of these people . But the word ‘Hindu’ or ‘Hinduism’ occurs in no scriptures. The religion which now passes as Hinduism is derived from the Vedas. But it has undergone much change with the addition of many new beliefs and practices which it has assimilated over the centrueis form many sources. The change has been so deep and extensive that is no longer the same religion as the Vedas speak of. But this is not to say that the present Hinduism has completely deviated from the Vedas. The spirit remains the same but it express itself in different forms to suit different tastes. This flexibility has saved Hinduism even in its most difficult days. It has changed in details but its basic character has remained intact. The Vedas continue t inspire it, but it has drifted and is still drifting away from the mores characteristic of the past ages. It is ancient in its roots, but modern in its outlook.
Swami Vivekanda was not happy about the word ‘Hinduism ‘ He would have preferred the word ‘Vedic’ But by Vedic’ he meant the spiritual contents of the religion. The Vedas preach nothing but truth. Truth is one, but it can be variously explained. This brief statement sums up the infinite Vedas. The Vedas are no books, they are ‘Knowledge’ they are also known as ‘Truth’ The Vedas are infinite because is infinite. Truth is everything . Truth is everything because it is impersonal. There is no way of describing truth. Truth is truth. Truth bridges the gulf between .’ I’ and ‘you’ or ‘this and ‘that’. Truth is All. Truth is One. Truth is that Self –of –all , good or bad big or small.
He described Hinduism as a science. It is a science because it is based on truths which are verified and verifiable. If there has been one saint there can be many saints. Courtesy Vedanta in Practice

How Climate Impacts

Monday, August 10, 2015
How Climate Impacts
Climate is the average weather occurring in a place over a number of eyars. If someone says “Greenland is a gold country” it is a statement about climate. Isn’t it rainy today? Is a remark about the weather, which changes from day-to-day and sometimes hour to hour like our thought and mode.
What influences Climate?
The climate of a place depends largely on how far north or south of the Equator is it; the way in which the land and sea are arranged in the area is also very important. Mountains, ocean currents, and winds all play a part in forming climate.
Climate Zones; The earth may be divided into three areas with the same sort of climate . These areas are known as Climatic Zones.
Near the North : and South Poles are the Polar climatic regions. These are very cold, with snow and ice all the year round although not much snow actually falls there. There are only two seasons: a log winter and a short sunny summer, when there are twenty four hours of daylight every day
The tropical region lies each side of the Equator and is hot all the year round . Parlts of the tropics have fairly distinct wet and dry seasons , but in other parts there is very little change between the seasons.
The two temperate regions lie between the tropical and polar regions. In these areas the temperature is neither hot nor very cold. However, some of the wettest places on Earth are in those regions . There usually four distinct seasons : Spring , Summer Autumn and Winter.
Other climatic zones fit in between the three main ones The Sub-Polar regions lie between polar and temperate regions. Sub-Tropical between temperate and tropical, and Equatorial in the middle of the tropical zone.
Another sort of climatic zone is arid zone. It occurs in various places on the Earth .There is a shortage of rainfall or snow in the zone. The most well-known arid zones are deserts, like the Sahara Antarctica has a very low snow fall and is, therefore , and arid zone., it is sometimes called a Polar desert.
Are climatic zones a clear demarcation of climate? The climatic zones are only a rough guide to climate .particular, places may be affected strongly by their surroundings. Places high up have colder climate than places ear sea level; places near the sea have warmer winters and cooler summers than places inland.
Another way to decide what sort of climate a place has is to examine the animal and plant life . if there are no trees then it is either cold or dry in mountainous areas, trees will not grow above a particular height. This shows that the climate is colder the higher one goes.
In deserts the problem is not cold but lack of water; trees grow near oases or water courses. Even if there is not water in sight, a line of tree in the secret indicate that there is water under the ground in tropical areas the trees stay green all  the year round since there is little seasonal variation. They may bear fruit at any time of the year. Courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
The Golden Mean of All Religions
It is obvious that in order to be able to proceed through all the stages of life to its great destination, we need to be protected from injury. In other words, we require security of life and the help of interpersonal relation. How do we get these ? They can be got by following such ideals of religion as mutual respect and kindness.
The Daksha Samhita teaches.
Listen and grasp this as the quintessence of Dharma: do not do unto others what is hurtful to yourself.
The Bhgavad Gita Teaches;
Him I told to be the supreme yogi who looks on the pleasure and pain of all beings man and animals  as he looks on them in himself.
The Dharmadapada teaches.
All man tremble at punishment all men fear death. Likening others to oneself one should neither slay nor cause to slay.
Tee Kung asked. ‘Is there one single word that can serve as a principle of conduct for life Confucius replied. Perhaps the word reciprocity (shu) will do. Do not do unto others what  you do not want others to do unto you.
Like wise we read in the New Testament;
And as you wish that men would do unto you, do you unto them.
This is one voice of religion everywhere on the basis of which alone protection form injury is possible. And this principle holds good in family , society and national and international relationships.
Many of our conflicts can be traced to the violation of this golden principle of human conduct which is one of the fundamental principles of true religion. Courtesy Relgigion always Helps

You are What Your Habits Are

Monday, August 03, 2015
You are What Your Habits Are
In all walks of human life , the habits relating to the formation of thoughts , emotions and actins play an important role. It is habits which mould personality or harm it.
If we continually do something , good or bad, for a sufficiently long time, it influences our mind and our nervous system so strongly that the habit becomes a part of our nture and is carried out like our involuntary actins. We can cite the example of a solider with whom professional training has become part of his nature and how his mind became so conditioned.
Once a retired solder was walking on the road, carrying a load of grocery on his head. A mischievous boy had seen him walking several times on the road . when the soldier was walking absent-mindedly along the road by the side of a ditch, the boy spouted aloud; “Attention” ! The moment the retired soldier heard it. He dropped his arms, which were until then supporting a bundle , stood erect and was about to  salute. The bundle on his head fell into the ditch. Before he became aware of the mischief, the incident had taken place. As he had long been subjected to military exercises, his mind acted mechanically and spontaneously at a mere suggestion!
Many are not aware of the tremendous controlling power of habits. It is habit that act as obstructions to us to overcome complicated situations. Every day , without our knowledge, we try to adapt to our place and environment. Observe those who have the habit of smoking drinking  etc. of course, we need not mean only bad habits when we refer to habits.
All kinds of habits control the individual and mould his personality with their powerful influence. Our achievements, ideas,, contradictions, tastes and acquisitions, love and hate anger and anxiety, secrets and deceits, pride and self-esteemed, inclinations and tendencies, sarcasm and mockeries-all these are the habits that we have gathered from our surroundings, consciously or unconsciously,. There is an adage in English about the difficulty of freeing oneself from an ingrained habit. Even if you remove the first letter ‘h’ from it, a bit remains , if the letter “a” is removed, bit remains, if “b” is removed “it” remains. Do you now realize how strong the effect of habit is?!
“Habit is either the best of servants, or worst of masters” said Nathaniel Emmons, So habit can be a wonderful servant it can save your much time and effort, and make things in general much easier for you. If you can train yourself to acquire good habits of health, recreation, prompt decision making , learning and work, you will almost surely from the habit of success and happiness. Courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta
The ego is our greatest enemy in accomplishing this. It constantly produces delusion in our mind. Yet if it is helpful to us, we do not wish to destroy it. What we want is ot reshape it. We want a better from of ego. This is the idea of all discipline. The only way we can conquer this subtle force is to hold ourselves as the witness. As we would stand on the bank of a river and see the water flow by, so we should watch all impressions pass without being disturbed by them. The ordinary tendency is , when some one strikes, to  strike back; but this is not the case with a man of masterful mind. It is not that he lacks in sensibility, but these things do not move him; he ahs, as it were, put on and armour of fortitude an calmness.
The practice of detachment includes two distance processes, -withdrawing an indrawing. We must withdraw ourselves from whatever retards our unfoldment; then create a strong new spiritual impression by turning our thought within. At present we are all slaves to certain habits; in order to overcome these we must cultivate other habits, which in time will become so dominant that they will efface the old ones. All our out-going tendencies, which now hold us back, must be detached from the non-essential and then drawn inward. But this is only possible though superior knowledge.
If we try to do violence to our mind by a sudden uprooting of the old impressions, it suffers; but if we first acquire a correct knowledge of the relative value of things, the mind itself lets go without any pang. First we analyze, discriminate and try to see everything in its true light; then as the mind gradually detaches itself from the old impression. We turn it inward and fix it on some spiritual object. As we do this our heart become more and more liberated from the non-essential and fins its sole delight in God.
