The value of Friendship

Monday, October 26, 2015

The value of Friendship
Author Richard Exley said “A true friend is one who hear and understands when you share your deepest feelings. He supports you when you share your deepest feelings. He supports you when you are struggling; he corrects you , gently and with love, when you err; and he forgives you when you fail. A true friend prods you to personal growth, stretches you to your full potential. And most amazing of all, he celebrates your success as if they were his own”.
You cannot sustain a deep friendship with everyone, noir should try. But you could cultivate genuine, deep friendship with people. And you can be a friendly, kind supportive person to everyone you meet. You can treat every person as an individual, not simply a business “contact” if you put others first as people and then worry about business second, you’re on your way to practicing the Friendship Principle.
No matter what kind of business or industry you’re in, the friendship Principle can help you It doesn’t matter if you’re the salesman or customer, a boss or an employee, an executive or stay-at-home-mom. Whatever work you do, people will be more inclined to do it with you when you treat them like friends.
One person who had incredible insight about relationships was King Solomon of  ancient Israel . During his lifetime, he wrote many wise things about friendship. He wrote. “Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family” when you develop a deep friendship with someone value it, because real friends are rare. A true friend……
v  Is someone who sees you at your worst but never forgets you best.
v  Is some who thins you’re a little bit more wonderful than you truly are.
v  Is someone you can talk to for hours or be with in complete silence?
v  Is as happy for your cusecs as you are.
v  Trusts you enough to say what he really means when talking to you.
v  Doesn’t try to know more, acts smarter, or be your constant teacher.
In short, a real friend is a friend all the time. Value the real friends you have they are precious. More important, try to become a real friend to others. There are few gifts grater. Courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True charm and power of Vedanta
The two Friends
They were close friends; Gadi and Chino. But  never were two persons so unlike; Gadai, teenaged , a Brahmin, a school drop out, carefree in his out look on life; Chinoo, middle aged, a shudra, owner of a grocery shop . very sedate, deeply religious. The story of Krishna and his many pranks absorbed him. No other religious character appleased to him so much.
Chino alias Srinivas, lived in the same village as Gadi, but in a different neighborhood. Gadi , that is Gadahar (later Ramakrishna) was also religious, but he loved not only Krishna , but every form of God Whenever they met,-they met often-they argued about religious matters. Chino had some fixed notion and tended to be dogmatic . Gadai loved to prove how hollow his notions were and made fun of his dogmatism. Chinoo, having read the Bhagavata well. Knew the essence of the Hindu tradition quotations, from the Bhagavata, but Gadai always seemed to be an edge over him . Sometimes the arguments continued for days together. Somehow or other Chinoo always found himself on the defensive , for Gadi, speaking form the common-sense point of view, made his stand look so vulnerable. !Chinoo relied on his scholarship but Gadai’s weapon was his innate skill or argument, his sense of humour , and his quick repartees which often left Chinoo totally defenseless. He began to recognize the presence of some special power in Gadai, which enable him to separate the corn from the chaff. If ever Gadi found himself in a spot, he silenced Chinoo by climbing his shoulders. The argument stopped for the day, but only to be resumed at the earliest opportunity.
This continued for how long no one knows for certain. It must have continued a long time judging from how Chinoo changed. Where they met they argued as usual, but Chinoo began to feel the was losing ground to Godai, Gadi spoke from wisdom the source of which Chinoo kniew nothing about. the source was not books it was something else. He spoke with authority which Chinoo could not deny. He might still argue but his argument had lost its force. He realized Gadi drew his inspiration form somewhere beyond his reach. he had previously felt unhappy if he could not cope with Gadi’s arguments, now he felt elated. Whatever he said must be right. It easy not an argument. It was a message.
At last, the final surrender came. Chinnoo had become feeble and he knew his end was not far off. One day he invited Gadi to a thicket in the village. Few people even visited that place. He garlanded Gadi and then worshipped him in the formal way. Finally he frapped on his knees and with folded hands said. ‘Lord , I know who you are. You are the savior who comes again and again to show mankind the way . you are a boy , not many people know yet who you are and what you are in this world for. The time will come when people from all corners will rush to you for your blessings. I won’t live to see that. But Lord, Please remember I was the first who recognized you. And please bless me’
For once his friend did not contradict him. He also remembers him and often talked about him in later years. Courtesy Vedanta in Practice

One day they argued that he was wasting ten precious minutes on something, which he had been misled into believing. The doctor replied, “Well, if God does not exist, I agree that I am wasting ten minutes a day. But, if He exists? I am afraid you are wasting your entire lifetime. I prefer to waste ten minutes rather than a lifetime. Why should you grudge me the 10 minutes joy that I derive 4m.

Why Mediate?

Monday, October 19, 2015
Why Mediate?
I meditate in order to find myself, a brief moment alone and apart, far from the maddening crowd’s dishonorable bitterness, that I may not get lost in the crowd, that I may call my own.
I meditate in order to find rest from life tiredness and fret, so that my soul can catch its breath and restore its scattered strength.
I meditate in order to find peace from the violent confusion and the bitterness from the tensions and the turmoil of coping with life’s tasks and challenges.
I dedicate in order to see life steadily and see it whole; so that whatever I experience I can absorb and relate to my vision of life and place n proper perspective.
I meditate so that my surface life and my interior life be not in conflict with one another; but are mutually reinforced an brought into harmony and oneness.
I mediate in ordered to discover the depths of my being, discover and release the forces hidden there the reserves of strength and endurance, the powers of self-recovery and self healing, that wait upon my quietness human , aware of the “I” in me, aware of the ‘me’ in other people , aware of other people in me, none, of us an island, but all part of the main.
I mediate to grasp bettered the meaning of human existence and my own purpose upon this earth, so that I can find the hidden treasure of life and be sustained by it.
I mediate to sift better the wheat from the chaff in the values of my society, so that I can adhere to the essential and gladly let the trivial go free.
I meditate in order to grow in understand of my relationship to God, and His relationship to me, so that I can express this relationship in my daily life, be sustained by my awareness of its existence, and guided by the compass it provides so that I live in Him and He in me, that I may begin a relationship now that will be forever and ever in world without end. Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
The Goal and the Way
If we think calmly for a while, we find that all the scriptures speak in the same strain and of the same goal. True, they teach the same truth; yet this appeals to people when put in different ways. We shall discuss some scriptural teaching about the goal and the means to it. It is a trite saying; As am man sows , so does he reap . Scriptures too say that as a man thinks, so does he become. Success depends upon exertion. There is an invariable connection of cause and effect between right exertion and success.
Whatever a man earnestly tires to do must meet with success.
Religion is hardly a matters of lecturing learning , or teaching . it is a thing to be experienced. Thee may be many ways of spiritual practice according to temperamental different of aspirants. This is why there have been so may sects in the domain of religion. If we analyses all the sects of our country , we can divide them under four heads, viz Janani, karmi, Bhakta, and Yogi. Those who avoid sense-objects and hankerings after them and remain content in the Self alone, take to the path of knowledge (jnana) those who, being in the midst of worldly object and activities, find themselves very limited in resource and take refuge in the Almighty God are known as Bhaktas (devotees) Those who work in the right sprit are Karmis (selfless workers) ?there is another calls fo men who try to uproot the seeds of desires by looking into the very depths of their mind through concentration. They are called yogis. Courtesy Religion and its Practice

Live for Others

Monday, October 12, 2015
Live for Others
“One should live for others. I have fulfilled my karma, my destiny. I have done every thing within my capacity that had to be doe. There is nothing more left to do. A tin with the capacity to hold twenty kilos of ghee . no, more . if you try to fill it up with more ghee it will spill over. I am in the same state now you evolve yourself according to your own personality. While evolving yourself, however, remember this. A man’s life is for others. A man who lives only for himself is not a human or even an animal . Have you ever seen a hen eating another hen? You live for yourself, earn for yourself enjoy your earning for yourself. This is not sing of a human being.
Cord of selfishness

Man has bound himself with the cord of selfishness. Whether or not you can do something about it is a different matter. But considerer this point-when the bridge to Lanka was being built for Lord Rama’s army, didn’t the squirrel make a humble contribution? The bridge couldn’t have been built with the and it brought, but look at its bhakti, devotion and dedication to the Lord’s work . that is the most important thing.
The intensity of feeling within you is all that matters. You may not be a millionaire or a billionaire, but you can still serve by means others than money. You can serve through physical work, bhakti , genuine emotion, compassion, etc. Suppose you are a poet, a story writer or an artist working with the media, you can inspire people, you can set them thinking altruistically. Suppose you are a leader, the head of a panchayat, a village council. You set the rules for the village , to tell the people that they should not live for themselves but for others.
The tree brings forth fruit for others. Have you ever seen a mango tree eating her own fruit? Grains, vegetables flowers and fruits grow in abundance for others to eat. Look around and you will see that everything lies, thrives and grows for others. It is only man who lives selfishly for himself. he earns only for his own children and keeps clinging to them selfishly. Whoever lives for others is dedicated to others. One who is selfless is selfless towards one and all. One who is charitable is charitable towards one and all with no discrimination. One who is a well-wisher is well –wisher to all, not only to Muslims, Brahmins, Vaishaya, or widows. He/She live for one and all without exception. Excerpt from : Bhakti Yoga Sagar
Drinking Water for Rural Masses
The national Rural Drinking water program (NRDWP) has been implemented by the Government oif India through the Ministry of Drinking water and Sanitation . it gives lot of importance to water sources and availability with regard to portability, adequacy, convenience, affordability and equity. This can be achieved only with the community involvement at the grass-roots level . besides it, strong politic will and participation of non-government organizations is also needed.
In view of the need and aspiration of the rural masses, provision has been made in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017) to ensure the supply of piped water to at least 50 percent of the rural population with at least 55 ipcd (liters per capita per day) instead of 40 ipcd with their premises or within 100 meters distance from their household without any barriers of socio-economic discrimination.
The strategic plan for the Rural Drinking water, 2011-2022 ensures safe and enough water for dinking cooking and other domestic needs as well as for livestock throughout the year including during any natural calamities. By 2022 every rural person will have access to 70 ipcd within his/here household premises or at a horizontals or vertical distance of not more than 50 meters from household individual States can adopt higher quantity norms, such as 100 ipcd. The goal to be achieved by 2017 is to ensure that at least 50 percent of rural households are provided with piped water supply , at least 35 percent of rural households have piped water supply with household connections. Less than 20 percent will use public taps and less than 45 percent will use hand pumps or other safe and adequate private water sources. All services will meet set standards in terms of quality and number of hours of water supply every day.
Apart from this , the NRDWP wants to ensure adequate water supply to all households schools and anganwdi in rural India.
Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta
Love of God
Love is something absolutely unselfish, that which has no thought beyond the glorification and adoration of the object upon which our affection are bestowed. It is a quality which bows down and worships and asks nothing in return. Merely to love is the sole request that true love has to ask. It is sais of a Hindu saint that when she was married she said to her husband, the king, that she was already married. ‘To whom? Asked the king. To god’ was the reply . she went among the poor and the needy and taught the doctrine of extreme love for God. One of here prayers is significant , showing he meaner in which here heart was moved. I ask not for wealth; I ask not for position; I ask not for salvation, place me in a hundred hells if it be. Thy wish, but let me continue to regard Thee as my Love. The early language abounds in beautiful prayers of this woman. When here end came , she enter into Samadhi on the banks of  a river. She composes a beautiful song in which she stated that she was going to meet here Beloved.
Men are capable of philosophical analysis of religion., A woman is devotional by nature and loves God from the heart and soul and not form the mind. The songs of Solomon are one of the most beautiful parts of the Bible. The language in them is much of that affectionate kind which is found in the prayers of the Hindu woman saint. And yet I have heard that Christians are going to have these incomparable songs removed. I have heard explanation of the songs in which it is said that Solomon loved a young girl and desired here to return his royal affection. The girl, however, loved a young man and did not want to have anything to do with Solomon. This expiations is excellent to some people, because they cannot understand such wondrous love for God as is embodied in the songs. Love for
God in India is different from love for God elsewhere, because when yo get into a country where the thermometer reads 40 degrees bellows zero. The temperament o fht people changes. The aspiration of the people in the climate where the books of the Bible are said to have been written, were different from the aspiration of the cold-blooded Western nations, who are ore apt to worship the almighty dollar with the warmth expressed in the songs than to worship God. Love for God seems to be based upon bais of what can I get out of it? In their prayers they asked for all kind of selfish things.
Christians are always wanting God to give them something. They appear as beggars before the throne of the Almighty. A story is told of beggar who applied to an emperor for alms. While he was waiting , it was time for the emperor to offer up prayers. The emperor preyed. O god give me more wealth, give me more power, give me a grater empire. The beggar started to leave. the emperor turned and asked him. Why are you going? I do not beg of beggars, was the reply. Courtesy Bhakti yoga

God the Wicked

Monday, October 05, 2015
God the Wicked
This is an astonishing phrase used by Swami Vivekanda. In the same strain he has also said, ‘God the poor’ God the ignorant’ Not only he, even his Master ,Sri Ramakrishna, has said similar thing . Is all this not blasphemy?
There is a whole philosophy behind such expressions, according to this philosophy, man is essentially divine. He is divine, but his divinity is hidden. It is like the full moon is always full, though it is not always so seen. Sometimes it is not seen at all. Whether the moon is seen a t all or not, and however distorted it may be seen sometimes, it always remains what it really is –the full moon.
This simile aptly describes man’s real nature and how it is seen distorted. Wickedness is not his real nature, it is only a distortion. This distortion can be corrected and when it is corrected, man shows his divinity. He is then a Godlike man, a wonder to everybody,
What are this man’s specific qualities? First and foremost, he is honest. No temptation and o threat can make him tell a lie. He is selfless. He lives as if he lives for others. He never hurts anybody; he does not hurt an animal for food or otherwise or even a plant. He is above the barriers of race and country. The whole world is his home. Everybody is his brother and sister. If anybody or any living thing is in pain, he is in pain too. If others are happy, he is also happy. He is one with everybody and everything.
Man is by nature selfish. How can he be so transformed that he will be like the kind of man described above? Has anybody ever seen such a man in flesh? Or cause there have been such men and women again and again in history. Maybe there have been many more than we know of . they have come and gone, few people outside the circle of their closet friends knowing anything about their greatness. This was because their natural modesty made them shun publicity as far as possible. even now may be found such people among the humblest in the world with divinity manifest in them n varying degrees but if they are not know , it is because they prefer to remain unnoticed.
But if there is divinity in everybody, how is it that there is also wickedness in man? How can good and evil coexist? It is because man is ignorant of the truth that he is divine. If he were conscious of his divinity, he would have been consistently good, not sometimes good and sometimes bad, as at present, Each individual has to discover the divinity that ties hidden within himself under the mass of good and evil tendencies on the surface. It is like discovering gold under the earth. One has to dig deeper and deeper till the ‘Gold’ is found. But how does one know that there is any divinity at all within oneself? At first one has a doubt about it, but when one sees people outstanding in their goodness, ne cannot help but ask why one should not try and be like them.
No man is absolutely bad. Even the worst scoundrels are sometimes exceptionally good. It is wrong to permanently condemn anybody as wicked. If there is a blasphemy, it is it. Give him an opportunity to improve. With good education, encouragement and sympathy even a hard-core criminal can improve. Instances of such transformation are many . this is possible because man is basically divine. Courtesy Vedanta in Practice

Brains and Feeling
The brain is literally the head office. Nerves from every part of the body take messages to it, and it a nerve is cut no message can come through. This is the basis of anesthesia. A local anesthetic merely puts the nerves, the body’s telegraph system, out of action, but a general anesthetic closes down the brain, the receiving station.
A brain is made up of the same stuff as nerves, but the grey matters, which is supposed to be responsible for most of the thinking, is spread over the whole in a layered of varying depth according to the brain. It is not possible to make a detailed map of a brain. Reasoning, however, it is agreed, is centered largely n the forehead our cerebrums, sight at the back, and the hind brain or cerebellum controls the body balance.
Secondary brain centered in the hips
No there organ in the world compares in complexity with the human brain  an average man’s brain weighs two and a half pounds, roughly one-sixth of his entire weight. An elephants’ brain may weigh fifteen pounds, but this is only 1/600th of the animals total heaviness.
Even such a poor brain as this is a great advance on the brains of reptiles. The limited minds of the huge dinosaurs largely hastened their extinction. The Stegosaur, for instance, had a brain infinitely smaller in proportion to that of the elephant it was so small that a sort of secondary brain many times the size of the true brain was centered in the hips to direct the moments of the hind legs and swing the huge tail. .
A similar state o affairs occurs with invertebrates. Crabs and files, for example have minutes true brains, but ‘belly brains” centered at the junction of their legs. In a jellyfish or sea anemone there is nothing that can be called a brain-merely a tangle of nerves, with no central receiving station
It will be realized from this how misleading is the humanized in popular nature stories. An insect is more comparable to a machine than a mammal. Even it dismembered, the parts mechanically attempt to carry on, as under normal conditions. Pain is an insignificant term when applied to the invertebrates, and possibly many of the lowest backboned animals. Courtesy wisdom
Quote from the True Charm and Power of Vedanta

The earth sky, heaven, the primary quarters, and the intermediate quarters; Fire , Air, the Sun, the Moon and the Stars; water, herbs, trees, sky, and Virat-these relate to natural factors. Then follow the personal one; Prana, Vyana ., Apana Udana, and Samana the eye the ear, the mind speech, and the sense of touch ; skin, flesh muscles bones and marrow . having imagined these thus, the seer said, All this is verily constituted by five factors one fills up the outer five fold by the (individual) fivefold ones.
Since a sacrifice is performed with five factors-the sacrificeer and his wife, the son, divine wealth, and human wealth. Thus everything can equated matter only with the Metter Prakriti but also with sacrifice
These different forms of the vital force perform these functions respectively: exhaling, pervading, inhaling, leaving the body and digesting.
